Valentine’s Day preparation and a turtle

Preparing Valentine's Day gifts

I need to offer a full apology to my husband.  After inferring that he wouldn’t be organised for the school Valentine’s Day gifts, he sat down last night  and within an hour, everything was labeled, in bags, ready to go into school on Friday.

So, we’re set, nothing else to do.

In the middle of our Valentine’s Day preparations, we agreed to foster a turtle.  A surfer found him floating in the water, it’s a red ear slider, not a sea turtle.  We’re not quite sure how he ended up in the ocean, but he’s a fresh water turtle and after spotting the him, my husband agreed to take him home.

The boys have called him Fred and are hoping for a complete adoption.

I have called Animal Control and am hoping that Fred will stop living it up in our bathtub and be taken away.

So there, not only can my husband prepare for Valentine’s Day gifts in advance, but he rescues helpless animals in the middle of it all.

I was….wrong.  (it’s just as hard to type as it is to say.)

Welcome to the world of leisure as the big V-day approaches! We’re all done too, wrapped up and ready for school on Friday. It’s a completely inane practice and I end up chucking most of what the kids bring home. But if your kid doesn’t participate the other kids notice. I hate other kids.

My one concession has been to buy OH a card. Now whether I actually get around to writing it – let alone remembering where I have put it – is another matter altogether.

The kids here though will bring home cards they have made at school/nursery for ME, not for other children in their classes. That really sucks. I linked to you in my ES blog about this: http://londonmum.standard.co.uk/2010/02/the-valentine-cause-and-effect.html

Oooh, that was a dangerous one! Not sure you can claim the moral high ground now, for admitting that, or if you will forever be fighting from a weaker position. ;-)

Perhaps you could make sure it’s his job every year now? ;-)

We didn’t do bags – just real cheapo cards and lollies. I’m hoping not to be the only cheapskate parent…..

I found your blog through Almost American and the Welsh rugby comment. I’m English (living in CA) but my Dad and brother both went to Welsh Univ and as a result both support Wales over England in the 6 nations. I was so glad to see it back on the Beeb (bye bye Gordon Ramsay).

As for Valentines, after ploughing through my daughter’s school valentines I woke up yesterday to find I hadn’t even thought about a card for my husband. Isn’t true love wonderful?!

We had a quiet day. No turtles. Does your hubby surf, BTW? He must I’m guessing.

@LCM – thanks for the link on your ES blog – very cool!

@Mwa – actually he had a really hectic week so didn’t get a chance to read my post. So now I’ve apologised by he hasn’t seen it!

@AModernMother My husband doesn’t surf but we all boogie board, we need to upgrade to surfing – maybe this summer.

@Alison thanks for visiting – I’ve put you in my reader :)

@NappyValleyGirl Yes, he’s on Valentine’s Day duty from now on.

@GeekyMummy it was impressive, I must admit!
