The Gallery – Back to School

by Lorna Harris on September 8, 2010

Rather like one of Pavlov’s dogs, I’ve been conditioned to panic on Sunday nights about school readiness.  The boys no longer wear heavy, black leather shoes from Clarke’s but on Sunday nights, I still have the urge to have a look for them and see what sort of state they’re in.  In England they would have been covered in mud, which needed to be removed before polishing.

As it was Labor Day Weekend here, it was Monday night that brought the feeling of back to school fear and lack of preparation.  But, there is nothing to prepare here.  The boys don’t wear a uniform; just grab something from their wardrobe.  They don’t wear shoes that need polishing, just a pair of canvas Vans.  There’s no labeling, no PE kit to worry about.  No swimming lesson kit.  So, on Monday night I had the distinct feeling of not having done enough prep.

Here’s my photo for Tara’s Gallery – Back to School.  School is a 3-mile bike ride along the beach.  Sometimes we see dolphins, there are surfers and waves crashing along the sand.  I pinch myself every day that we’re so lucky to have such an amazing school run.

Wow – lucky indeed. Mine don’t wear uniforms either, which I love, although the older two have PE kit – which of course we can never find in time.

Sounds idyllic! Must be hard to cycle past the sea for school though, I would be tempted to take a detour for the scenic route!

Wow! That is a GREAT school run! How wonderful to have such views to and from school! :)

Wow indeed. How wonderful to have that ride to school. Does not having a uniform cause issues with fashion etc?

That sounds like a lovely journey.
We don’t have a uniform either, and all it says about Phys Ed is to ‘wear a pair of sneakers’. I can still remember my white PE kit, regulation white sneakers and Art smock from primary school, so it does seem rather strange!

That is a school run to die for.

Mud-covered black school shoes only in our house, more’s the pity!

It does sound like a wonderful thing to do in the morning.
