The Gallery: Outside my front door

by Lorna Harris on March 30, 2010

Outside my front door, well two blocks from our house, is this:

No, I can’t quite believe it either.
I pinch myself most days in disbelief that we can be quite so lucky.  At the moment, the peninsula is covered in Spring Break tourists, college students determined to enjoy their holidays.  In a couple of weeks time, [...]

10 reasons you know it’s Pony baseball season

by Lorna Harris on March 29, 2010

1.    With four games and two practices a week between two boys, you say goodbye to any possible social life.
2.    You purchase stain remover in bulk.  Grass and mud stains on white trousers from six events per week, you never leave the washing machine.
3.    Your bottom is so sore from sitting for five hours straight [...]

Me (at the moment)

by Lorna Harris on March 23, 2010

BMX and Bougainvillea.
I took this photo on Sunday morning at my son’s BMX lesson.  As soon as I took it, I knew I would be using the photograph as part of Tara’s Gallery.

As a mum of two boys, I spend my life at skate parks and baseball fields, handing out water bottles, fixing shoelaces and [...]

Taking notes the right way with a Graphic Record

by Lorna Harris on March 19, 2010

I’ve used Twitter for awhile now, loved it at some points, grown rather bored now and then, wasted far too much time or ignored it altogether.  At the SXSW Festival last weekend, I wanted to attend the Ev Williams Keynote so that I could learn more about the service and where it was headed.  I [...]

Being British at South By South West (SXSW)

by Lorna Harris on March 16, 2010

I’m here in Austin, hanging out at South By – that’s what all the cool kids call it.  I, rather embarrassingly, was referring to the conference by its’ full name, South By South West.  As a SXSW virgin, I didn’t know any better.
The UK is well represented here.  I’m thrilled to hear British accents everywhere.  [...]

I’m writing this post especially for Nappy Valley Girl.  I’m slightly ahead of her in the Brit living in America stakes, so was able to provide some tips for Valentine’s Day.
Next up?  St Patrick’s Day.  The holiday which ensures every single American becomes Irish for the day.
Here’s what your children will expect:
Green water in the [...]

Three boys, six feet

by Lorna Harris on March 10, 2010

I’m taking part in the Gallery again over at Sticky Fingers.  I have found a few new blogs to read from the list and it’s great to see everyone’s photos.  This week’s theme is ‘Numbers.’
I took this photo on Christmas Eve around 4pm last year.  Yes, it was the most beautiful day.  The boys were [...]

Texan Beauty

by Lorna Harris on March 6, 2010

I’m Texas bound at the end of this week for SXSW.  It’s the first time I’ve attended the conference and I’m really excited about it.  Plus, we will be child free for a few days, which makes it even more of a treat.  I’m also looking forward to exploring Austin, a city I think I’m [...]

Emergency drills and reunification

by Lorna Harris on March 4, 2010

The boys came home with a list of items needed for a school earthquake kit yesterday.  It’s all the normal things you would expect, non perishable food items, a juice box, things to keep them going for a few days, in case they can’t be rescued immediately.  That slightly worried me.  I’d just go and [...]
