Christmas in the West

by Lorna Harris on December 20, 2009

The boys’ last day of school ended with some festive songs.  I’m so used to Away in a Manger and all the usual Christmas culprits, it was great to hear a new song – Christmas in the West.

Well it’s hot in the summer
And it’s hot in the fall
And it’s hot in the winter
So it doesn’t snow at all -
But we like to live where we do the best and
That’s how we celebrate Christmas in the west.

Bring on the turkey, bring on the yams
Cold apple pie and hot country ham.
Mix it with salsa to add some zest and
That’s how we celebrate Christmas in the west.

I love the ‘mix it with salsa to add some zest’ certainly no mince pies or figgy pudding here.

5 days and counting!

That’s certainly different – I love it! Around here it seems they’re not allowed to sing anything that mentions Christmas at all in school!

I haven’t heard this one! Maybe because the kids aren’t in school yet.

Hi there! I’m an editor for the Orange County Register and I want to use this post in our weekly blog roundup. Is the song sung to a recognizable tune? Another Christmas carol, perhaps? Thank you, and Merry Christmas!
