The new television season has started here in the US. It arrives with a huge splash every September with lots of glitzy advertising for any new programmes and old favourites have their fair share of promotion too.
We don’t watch a huge amount of television, people watching on our patio with a glass of wine is far more entertaining, but when we do, one of my absolute favourites is Californication. With David Duchovny playing Hank Moody, the ultimate laid back bad boy, I just want to drive off with him and his dilapidated Porsche into the California sunset.

When we were contemplating our move back to the States, we’d sit watching Californication with rain pouring down the windows, turning up the heat and knowing I’d have to scrape the ice of the windscreen before the school run in the morning. And that just finished me off. They were so chilled, so laid back. I wanted that lifestyle back again. I wanted the sun to shine, to immerse myself in the California lifestyle.
Then, to make matters worse, Arnold Schwarzenegger would pop up in the middle of the show with this advert:
‘When can you start?’ – it was as though he was talking directly to us.
David Beckham has recently recorded a new commercial to encourage tourists to come to California. I’m not a huge fan of the Beckhams, even though they only live up the road and have sons; you’d think we’d be great friends. But really, of all the wonderful things there are to see and do in California, I just don’t see why David Beckham should be the one to encourage you!
Come and see the amazing beaches, the national parks, the great cities, enjoy the weather. You should come, come to California. Maybe even go and see Beckham play football for his remaining time at LA Galaxy (although be warned, apparently the fans are shouting horrible things at him because of his desire to move somewhere else).
But if you can, come and find a Hank Moody to hang out with, not a David Beckham. You’ll have far more fun!

Yes, of the two Davids, Duchovny is my choice. Not a fan of Beckham, either.
I haven’t watched this show. I will check it out.
I’ll come to California but forget the bad boys… I’ll just visit you and it’ll be just as much fun!
just in time since i finished battlestar galactica last week. oh hank moody, what a swoon inducer!
Actually, I would do both of them.
I’ve never seen Californication, but maybe I’ll add it to my list of US programmes to catch up with….and yes, I’d prefer DD to DB any day.
