Following on from my post about Boden, I thought I would introduce the Americans who read my blog to some more very British things. Can you believe that there were people out there who hadn’t heard of it?!
Think of me as an ambassador for All Things British!
My other love is Emma Bridgewater. Again, it’s very, very English. Beautiful pottery of all shapes and sizes with the most beautiful and creative designs. When the movers were packing up our things, I panicked and thought I’d never be able to buy it ever again, so dashed off to the shop to buy a few more bits and pieces to add to the shipment. My favourite is their Polka Dot design but I like more of an eclectic selection so have a mixture of their pottery rather than a formal range.

When friends visited this year, they gave me the Union Jack mug, which I love and we all argue over!
The pottery is created by Emma Bridgewater and she works with her husband, Matthew Rice, who creates the most wonderful watercolours. In the UK each year I’d have his Year in the Country Calendar hanging up in my kitchen. Not only is it absolutely gorgeous, it’s full of wonderful sayings and tips such as ‘March can get a little gloomy. Rain, cold, Lent, school run. So go away for 3 or 4 days. Go by train, leave London after lunch, get to Venice for your breakfast.’ Sadly, I can’t buy it over here so my kitchen isn’t as gorgeous anymore.
I also love Matthew’s Advent Calendars, tins, books. Anything. I’m a huge fan, can you tell?!

There are some stockists in the US and you can also sign up for their catalogue, they deliver abroad. You can also now follow Emma Bridgewater on Twitter!
Enjoy!

I love that you are doing these posts! Although – after all I just spent ordering Boden stuff I can’t let myself look at anything else. Well, at least not for a few days anyway! : )
My cake / biscuit tins are Matthew Rice. I love them. Sadly there wasn’t room for them in the car when we moved out here, so they are in storage awaiting my return!
I have mugs and bowls with the olive and fig design, shown on your teapot here. I love them so much that I’ve already ordered more to replace broken ones – here’s hoping they never change the designs…
A friend gave me that calendar when we first moved here (we moved in December). She wrote on the gift tag “so that you can remember where your true centre of gravity is”.
Oh, this is very, very bad. When I say “bad” I mean good! Now I have to have some of this pottery! I love the polka dots!!!!
Just got my Boden catalogue today. Are British women really that happy? Need post like a play by play of what they are doing (thinking), please.
Every time I’m in Marshall’s or T.J. Maxx I scour the housewares section for English pottery. Once in a while I strike gold. There is nothing like the feel of real English china in your hand and I dare say it makes for a better cup of tea. I really like the Bridgewater tins as well.
I am with you on the china when abroad thing. I am currently lusting after an Emma Bridgewater tea pot – perfect size, always pour well (although my sister claims hers drips, but I think she just doesn’t like the design). Fingers crossed for Christmas!
My husband despairs but I have a real weakness for pottery stuff. when we lived in Thailand you could buy le creuset table ware for pennies in the markets and i really stocked up.
First time I have visited your blog. Like it.
